LPD AND TEAR GARDEN REMASTERED

Update :: Corey
The Legendary Pink Dots are in the midst of the massive undertaking of remastering the entirety of their voluminous and extraordinary output, re-releasing them digitally via Bandcamp. Included in this project are their classic collaborations with Skinny Puppy as The Tear Garden.

LPD were an early and powerful influence upon the Skinny Puppy sound and were even listed as such in the liner notes of that first, storied Back and Forth cassette. Over the course of thirty years of making music, the band has explored the hidden corners of a multitude of genres, with influences ranging from The Kinks to SPK to Can to Bowie. They unearthed the intersection of old school industrial and psychedelic pop, straddling the spacious and the hummable on releases like the tragic and elegant Golden Age or the multifaceted Asylum. The 1990s witnessed their progressive rock influences taking the fore on releases like Shadow Weaver. The horns and seering guitars of The Maria Dimension provide the soundtrack to flickering, alien dreams as drawn by a Jim Steranko or a Jack Kirby. 2002's contemplative All the Kings Horses grapples with being a human in a difficult time for the world. In his lyrics, Edward Ka-spel weaves a distinctly narrative tapestry that remains somehow intimate and affecting. If you've never listened to the Dots before, these remasters offer your entry point into their musical realm. More albums are being added as they are finished.

Also included in this project is the work of The Tear Garden. Started as a collaboration between cEvin Key and Edward Ka-Spel, the project soon evolved to include all members of Skinny Puppy and LPD at one point or another. Tired Eyes Slowly Burning offers a Twilight Zone, parallel universe take on Puppy's Cleanse, Fold and Manipulate-era sound. Featuring Ogre on the multi-part epic You and Me and Rainbows, albums like this are why the very idea of desert island discs exists. Their next album Last Man to Fly, is, without question, my favorite record ever made. It defined what music could be for the 16-year-old-me. Press play and hear the universe begin.

I cannot recommend you investigate these remasters more highly. Visit the Legendary Pink Dots Bandcamp store to preview all of these remasters for free.
