  • OGRE LIVE WITH KMFDM PIC
Finally a decent live picture of Ogre with KMFDM
    • Just after i say that i'm tired of posting KMFDM stuff, somebody HAS to put up a good picture worth mentioning. I found this over on RainMkr's Domain. He's got a handful good live pic's from the central florida area. I suggest you check them out.

  • CEVIN KEY REMIXES COLLIDE
Old news - Here's more remix info.
    • OK, i'm breaking my rule of not covering stuff that happened before 8/23/97 right and left. And since kevin jerome was kind enough to send me a tracklist and cover pic, i once again, smash the rules! Back to the point, the band is 'Collide', the album is 'Beneath the Skin' and it's track 12: 'Beneath the Skin (Subconscious Remix by Cevin Key)'. Wanna hear an real audio sample??? Click here! Below is the pic Kevin sent me.

  • OGRE AT KMFDM AUTOGRAPH SIGNING
Ogre was in Denver, CO at Wax Trax.
    • ...and from snowy Colorado, we have an Ogre sighting. Schuyler, thanks for the e-vine, let me know about Ogre being at the KMFDM signing at Wax Trax in Denver. Rather than paraphrase, below is some expert cut-and-paste from his message.

just went to Wax Trax for the guest signing of kmfdm. ogre was present and i got my too dark park record autographed and a big giant sp poster only of nivek ---signed Me and My Broken Arm...Nivek is Dead...

also I got to ask 1 question...of course, it was the question we all want to know and that was the new solo album...and the reply that I got from him was "It's coming Very soon!!!"

  • KMFDM REVIEW
Ok, it's got a tiny bit of Ogre info.
    • This may be the last time i mention this album, unless there's something very interesting happens. KMFDM's new album has Ogre on a track, right? (duh) Over on Al's Review Archive there's a review of the new album symbol-shit. Below is yer usual clip and click here to check the whole thing out.

Overall, I've got rather mixed feelings about this album. There's nothing actually wrong with it, but none of the songs really reach out and grab you. In my own personal hierarchy of KMFDM albums, I'd place it in roughly the same level as Money - competent enough, enjoyable in places, but lacking that certain something that characterizes the band at its best.

  • RUMORS ABOUND
What may we see in '98?
    • Lately there's been some interesting vague information floating around. None of this is set in stone, but since the source is good, i'll mention some possibilities. We may see three cEvin key albums out on Metropolis. It looks like he's signed for three solo albums. I assume 'Music Fur Cats' would be the first of them. ...And i'm hearing that we may see cEvin and the rest of subcon pick up and slide on down the coast to california. I assume El-Lay but who knows?

  • Side Note:
First off, happy end-of-the-year-or-whatever to 'yall. Second, and more importantly, for those of you who know me: Mollie and i are engaged to be married! And, it is true, i did cut off all my hair. Alas, another end of an era. Lastly, i promise, thanks to Paul S. for the cool shit for xmas, sorry man, i didn't get you a thing (i'm a jerk, sorry).

  • NEW CEVIN KEY PROJECT - 'GREY MATTER'
This new collaboration sounds very interesting.
    • Dimitri the owner of the great Tear Garden web page was kind enough to drop me an e-vine regarding this new effort. It seems it will be out in the spring of '98 on the Tone Casualties label. Below is a clip, click here to check out the info for yourself.

        Coming in Spring 1998:

collaborative brand new studio recording by
        CEVIN KEY
        (Skinny Puppy, Download)
        and
        PARIS

        "GREY MATTER"

One can only imagine what it will sound like !!!!!!!!!!!

  • OLDER NEWS 'BOUT DOWNLOAD
There is a Download remix of a Hal song with Gillian Anderson of the X-Files.
    • Normally my policy is to not drag up old stuff that's not new or stuff that happened before Aug. 23rd '97. But since i've broken that rule a few times before, i'll do it again. sandman reminded me of this, kinda bad (sorry, but it is) song Download remixed. Below is a portion of his e-mail.

...I recently discovered that Download did a remix of a song called Extremis. It's from a single by Hal (featuring Gillian Anderson from the X-Files show) called Extremis. It's released from Virgin Records Ltd. #V25D-38599 7243 8 38599 2 4...

  • MORE CEVIN KEY TRACK INFO
More information regarding the track 'No More Ghosts' from the compilation 'Resonance'
    • Faithful reader Mark Robinson was lucky enough to receive a copy of the album at his workplace. For the record, the label is 'Decibel,' the title is 'Resonance' and the catalogue number is 'DEC017.' Below is a portion of his e-mail.

the radio station i work at just got a copy of 'resonance' today and it does indeed have a cevin key track on it. here is the info, according to the liner notes

        13. cEvin Key - No More Ghosts
Written and performed by cEvin Key 1992
Published by the Subconscious Birdwatcher 1997

the track itself is 4:36 and very Doubting Thomas-esque, pretty much what you'd expect from 1992-era cEvin Key.

  • KMFDM CONCERT REVIEW WITH OGRE
There's good bit on Ogre in this KMFDM show review.
    • Over on Lastsigh the good folks posted a review of the Pontiac Michigan KMFDM show on November 14. It's a good review. Below is a clip i ripped off and click here for the full review.

Ogre did not come on stage until the fourth or fifth song of the show, but, was immediately met with a wave of appreciation and applause. A big smile played on his face, as he raised the microphone to his lips and began to sing. Pacing back and forth, and up and down the stage floor, jumping and throwing himself on the ground, twisting his head this way and that -- at times with a demonic look on his face, and at others with a boyish grin, stopping dead in the middle of the stage to stare up at the ceiling; a whirlwind pantomime artist, Ogre remained the dynamo in the KMFDM-machine throughout the rest of the show.

  • CEVIN KEY SOLO TRACK?
Apparently cEvin Key has a track on decibel's new compilation 'RESONANCE.'

  • CEVIN KEY INTERVIEW
    Another interesting interview pops up.
    • Kill'n time over on rec.music.industrial i noticed another cEvin Key interview. It's from the on-line rag Chaos Control. As usual, below is a clip.

Why Is Mark Spybey no longer in the band?

cEVIN: "We're still friends. It wasn't really like a big argument or anything like that. Once again, it's getting true to setting out to accomplish what you're interested in. I think with the tour last year, we realized that we had goals, but some of them were different than others. We felt that the addition of lyrics at this time wasn't really something we're interested in unless they were going to be very moving. I don't think that Mark necessarily considers himself a vocalist or a lyricist, and I think we found that for us vocals in this sense were a bit redundant."

  • SUBCON STUFF FOR SALE
Have cash to burn? There's way-cool stuff you can buy!
    • If you're a collector or musician (or have tons of cash) you may want to check out the Subconscious Communications home page. Over in the mailorder section all kinds of new stuff have been added. There is all kinds of Subcon gear up for sale. Most interestingly, you can buy original 'I Braineater' artwork! Below is the 'I Braineater' text.

[ i really hate to get rid of these , but space is not permitting me to display them. I still own another 10 of his pieces and have been a fan of Jims for 15 years , He is a brilliant artist and I would like them to go to a good home ]

I BRAINEATER * - self portrait [femine version] 4 feet by 4 feet Oil on Wood, signed '83 [ large cameo with spinning background ]

        * [ I braineater is also known as Jim Cummins who did the sleeve artwork for Too dark park , and Last rights, as well as many of the later Skinny Puppy T-shirt designs, not to mention countless hundreds of amazing and inspiring paintings that has made him a legend of sorts in Vancouver ]

Please inform me if any of you folks buy something or know someone who buys something.

  • Side Note:
I know this is completely unrelated, but... Quake 2 kicks ass! I don't know how else to say it. If you've got a p-133 or higher and a Voodoo video card, you have got to check out this game! The sound and graphx are astounding, i can't say enough.

  • CEVIN KEY INTERVIEW
It's from a small rag called 'FIX'.
    • Over on Epilouge poster Munkeynil typed in a whole cEvin Key interview. It's a very good interview, quite insightful. Below is an excerpt:

We wanted to try to make sounds and parts that would inspire the person to take it to the next step, which was something we were doing with Skinny Puppy, but we weren't able to keep the musical mainframe theme there.á Once the vocals and lyrics came along, it would really determind the direction where the music would go, so then the flavor would always end up that way.

  • CEVIN POSTS TO USENET
cEvin responds to similarities between 'Flight OTLI' and Pink Floyd.

  • SEVORG - GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN
Skinny Puppy's Last Rites is on autopilot.
    • Grand web guy Sevorg, owner of Skinny Puppy's Last Rites, has left us for a while. But to ease his temporary passing he dropped in a few new pics to his page. be sure to check out the top of his picture section for the new ones. The most interesting one is a rare picture of Rave. Below is a quote of his goodbye (come back soon) message:

        Sevorg has left the building...

I'm moving Dec 6th and will have no internet access for 6-12 months. Basicly, until I buy a new computer. So don't expect replies to any mail you choose to send. I might be able to check it once in a long while. I might not. Thanks to everyone who's helped along the way and I hope to return ASAFP. Brap On.

  • RITALIN NEWS!
The Alternative Press has an article and pic of Ritalin.
    • BAM! Finally some more Ritalin news! The January '98 issue 114 of the Alternative Press has a picture and a short article on Ritalin. They list the album as one of the '25 most anticipated albums of 1998.' Below is a t-nail of the pic and the atricle itself. It was typed/scaned in by ash who is much quicker than me :).

RITALIN [a.k.a. Ogre & Martin Atkins]

        Working Album Title Ritalin
Projected Release Date Mid-winter 1998, on Invisible

Why is It Anticipated? After American Recordings shelved his WELT project indefinitley, former Skinny Puppy vocalist Ogre teamed up with longtime friend Martin Atkins under the neame Ritalin. The album will be the singer's first full-legnth recording since Puppy's last album, 1996's The Process.

Whats It Gonna Sound Like? The duo will be working in Chicago and in London, bouth before and after Ogre's touring stint with KMFDM.

"I have no idea how [the album] will sound," says Atkins "If i knew that, I probably wouldn't make it. The reason I want to make the record is that I love Ogre a lot, and I like working with him. It's a good time for the label, and it's good for us creatively."

"I think [the record] will be loopy, loopy, loopy!" Ogre says, laughing. "I want to create intersting vocal meliodies and create loops from there. It's going to be a lot of fun stuff; im'm thinking of doing a cover of 'Scarecrow' from Syd Barnett-era Pink Floyd."

"Ogre dosn't know this," reveals Atkins, "but we're renting a boat for a day or two. I want him to do a vocal track where he can't see anything or anybody. Just go out on the lake far enough that he can't see the Chicago skyline. I want to experiment with things, but I don't want to be locked in a studio."

Bouth Ogre and Atkins are adamant that the creative process remain a no-stress situation. "I've just come through this huge depression of feeling, 'What if this work dosn't match up?'" admits Ogre. "I don't feel I have to be comptitve with anyone anymore" - Jason Pettigrew

  • EDWARD KA-SPEL INTERVIEW SNIPIT
There's a bit of interesting info in this interview clip.
    • Over on the Skinny Puppy mailing list Epilouge, Lysergic Maximus, posted a bit of his interview with Edward Ka-Spel of the Legendary Pink Dots and The Tear Garden. It's regarding Dwayne and some info on the new Tear Garden project. Here's what Lysergic had to say:

here goes, interview from the show in Austin Texas, just a bit... the whole thing will be up on the Zombie Zine website when its done...

You can find the Zombie Zine here if you'd like to check it out. Below is the clip from the interview.

lysá I have a question that I was debating on whether to ask or not... How do you feel that the death of Dwayne Goettel will affect the future of Teargarden and how did it affect the last album?

eksá It affected the last album very very much...á a sort of very sad atmosphere in the studio...á beacause Dwayne was such a fun character in the studio...á Dwayne always had a joke or always had a funny story...á and he was also an amazingly talented musician...á yeah, it affected the last album in the way it sounded, its a pretty sad album...á how it will affect the future, I don't know...
We've started the new Teargarden...á cEvin was actually in Holland for a week and we got in two sessions... its a challenge...á Teargarden is a challenging band... its more electronic, the new material...

Interesting stuff. Makes me wonder what it'll sound like. 1/3 Download III and 2/3 older Tear Garden?? And damn, it's such a tradgey Dwayne is no longer with us.

First i say, 'greg is one of the better guys out there,' and then he proves it.
    • Greg Clow was good enough to pop me these next two slabs of info. First, he drops in this info regarding another entry into Cleopatra's Skinny Puppy Tribute album. Remember, from October 20th, Claus Larsen of LeŠtherstrip will cover 'Testure?'

Here's a tidbit of info for ya Kinder Atom have been asked to contribute a track to the SP tribute album on Cleopatra, and they're considering doing a mambo-techno version of "Smothered Hope".

No, I'm not joking. You've been worned. -)

  • PLATEAU REVIEW
Not new, but i never mentioned this before.
    • What can i say?!??! Click here for the review and below is yer blurb.

Moving away from Key's industrial roots, this disc consists mainly of stark and minimal electronics, influenced equally by the classic techno sounds of Detroit, and the classic pot parlours of Amsterdam (Key's current home away from home).
  • DOWNLOAD/DOUBTING THOMAS REVIEWS
Sonic-Boom has two small reviews up in the November issue.
  • GREG CLOW'S DOWNLOAD 'III' REVIEW
Greg has done a review for Luna KafÚ.
    • Greg Clow, one of the better guys out there, has reviewed Download's 'III' for Luna KafÚ. Below is a clip from the review and click here to check out the whole thing.

Remaining from his earlier work, however, are Key's brooding ambient soundscapes, giving the material a dense and lush undercurrent that works in perfect harmony with the minimal beats that lay on top of the mix. The track Beauty In The Eyes is a great example of this juxtaposition: starting with a fragile, Aphex-style melody, and a crunchy beat floating around the edges, it moves into a stark centrepiece of ambience featuring a mournful cello, and then suddenly degenerates into a wall of static driven madness before fading into the next track. Even through all the stylistic dips and turns, it never seems to lose its focus or direction, a flaw that infiltrated some of Download's earlier material.

  • DOUBTING THOMAS REVIEW
The Industrial Bible reviews the re-release of 'Father Don't Cry' from Doubting Thomas.
    • The Industrial Bible slapped up a review, in the November issue, of the Doubting Thomas re-release 'Father Don't Cry.' Below (of course) is a blurb, click here for the full review.

The real gem of this MCD is the extended mix of the title track. Father Don't Cry is one of those songs that will remain a standard in the atmospheric electro industrial genre; a track which many others will be judged by.

  • CHRIS VRENNA TO REMIX SKINNY PUPPY
Chris Vrenna of NiN will do a remix on the upcomming SP remix album.
    • Mr. Tangent dropped this bit of news in a few places that was picked up from Rocktropolis in the 'allstar' section. More bits of information keep popping up about this remix album. I hope we see a tracklist soon. Below is a clip from the article, click here for the full thing.

He's also remixing a Skinny Puppy song for the remix album due on Nettwerk in 1998. There's no title, release date, or track listing available yet for the Skinny Puppy project.
"Being an industrial kid of the '80s, there are only two bands to idolize -- Ministry and Skinny Puppy," he says, "so to be able to remix one of the those two bands is really exciting."

  • OGRE TO BE ON COMIC BOOK SOUNDTRACK
Ogre will collaborate on soundtrack to the 'Witchblade'comic book.
    • Mr. Tangent also dropped this note from the same place. Yeah, i know it wounds weird, but odds are i'll buy it no matter what. So here's a clip and click here for the while article.

Kat Bjelland, singer/ guitarist of Babes in Toyland, is in the midst of putting together an album inspired by the comic book Witchblade for DreamWorks, which will feature her collaborating with such artists as Girls Against Boys, Kim Fox, the Melvins, Lydia Lunch, Arto Lindsay, Jim Thirlwell of Foetus, Chris Vrenna, Ogre of Skinny Puppy, Cibo Matto, Mimi Goese, and Subcircus, in addition to a Babes In Toyland track or two.

  • NOT NEW SKINNY PUPPY ADVERT
Scott finds old advert for Too Dark Park.
    • Sorry about the lack of updates lately, i've been kinda busy. More to the point, while my girlfriend is away i took it upon myself to throw away a ton of my old rags. I found this 'Too Dark Park' advert on the back of Alternative Press, issue 34. There is also a review of 'Too Dark Park' in there also, which i may transcribe if enough of you folks ask. Anywho, below is a scan of the advert and a copy of the text from the yellow box.

Within the tiny space afforded by myself, 'Too Dark Park' looms, as if beckoned, over a lost child madly scraping the Earth around it. Without the insight proven, before the earthy facts bore a hole straight through the living carcass shell, 'Too Dark Park' was lush, green, a veritable toyland of smoggy highs. Old Skin Beak now rules the park closed in by wicker brittle, dull, lifeless. Each season follows the next with the hope of rebellion. Rest assured there is plenty of room in 'Too Dark Park.'

  • SKINNY PUPPY ON NEW SOUNDTRACK
An American Werewolf In Paris features 'Hardset Head.'
    • I've been told this one a few times, so i guess i better post it eh? The new movie 'An American Werewolf in Paris' features 'Hardset Head' from 'The Process' on the soundtrack and in the movie. I've not seen it but i hear the song comes on during a multi-Werewolf rampage scene. Also, it's track 9 on the soundtrack itself.

  • NEW DOWNLOAD BIO AND INFO
    Nettwerk releases a new biography.
    • Ok, here's some good stuff from Nettwerk. We've got confirmation, again, of a tour. Another band has been confirmed for the 'Resilient' remixes and an upcoming video to look forward to! Click here for the bio and below are a few select bits of interesting stuff from the bio relating to 'III'.

Download will be releasing remixes by Autechre and Berlin's Chain Reaction crew derived from tracks on III, as well as a video by award-winning director Rod Chong (Front Line Assembly, Marilyn Manson). A subCONSCIOUS label tour will follow.

The occasional stir of voices is povided by recordings gathered by Key during travels in Jamaica, the spoken words of friends, poets, and anonymous beach drifters.

"There was a conscious attempt to identify with the fact that we were making a step forward," explains Key. "We had done a fair bit of improvisation in the past, and for this album we decided to touch bases we felt are important to express in electronic music".

  • KMFDM CONCERT WITH OGRE REVIEW
Straight outta No. Cal. a KMFDM concert review.
    • From Usenet, Pannkaiser posted to alt.music.kmfdm is review of the San Francisco show. Below is the snipet regarding Ogre. For the whole review click here.

The song order gets a little foggy, but the highlight was around this time. The beginning of Torture began bleebing and clanking along when !OGRE! made a somewhat dramatic enterance. The older folks who knew who he was went nuts. He sang his song but stayed on stage and played along for the rest of the show! except for maybe one of the encores. He looked like he was just having a good time, harassing En Esch every once in a while, grabbing his crotch, wrestling, etc.

  • SHORT E-MAIL FROM CEVIN
In a short response cEvin comments on reviews of 'III'.
    • Aaron Habel was way enough to inform me of, then forward to me, this e-mail from cEvin. Aaron had asked him what he felt about some of the reviews 'III' had been getting. Thanks Aaron!

funny , most if not all the reviews we recieve are very positive. I t depends on what type of listener. Metal heads don't like it cause there's no guitar.

  • DOWNLOAD EOSP LYRICS
Mary Spybey posted the lyrics to Sidewinder, Killfly and Collision.
    • Jason was checking out #download on EFnet last night and picked up these lyrics that Mark Spybey happended to be posting. Check 'em out:

        SIDEWINDER.
        for tomorrow is another day
        pig-hole
        animosity
        this is your reward
        this is your reward
        sometimes when the night
        screams into the knife
        i hate everything you are
        hate everything you are
        rotten formless corpse
        go away and hide
        go away and die
        how my heart it bleeds
        vile American
        vile American
        everything you are
        hate
        vile American
        everything you are
        everything you are
        everything you are
        vile American
        vile American

        KILLFLY.
        your words
        the taste
        of wasted dead
our lives are killfly picking meat
your prophets words are far between
our lives are killflies picking meat
all bones remain in catholic holes
        your words
        the taste
        of wasted dead
our lives are killfly picking meat.

        COLLISION.
        i hear your voice
        disappears from view
        your burning voice
        a thousand miles away
        i hear your voice
        a thousand miles away
        your skin so sharp
        your my,only,friend
my father used to take a drink or two when I was young
It was then that hallucinations always dangled from his tongue,
the skies ablaze with ladies legs he used to say,
        they╣re kicking from the cloud,
shoes fall from the morning haze
and splat like eggs above the crowd,
can you see them son ?
        distant voices,
        those distant voices,
        distant voices,
        those distant,voices.
I hear voices so I wrote,
time it is a great healer..
I hear voices so i wrote
You have time to live your hopes
and then you have just begun
to see there is more to heaven
        senses told you this also
        so much happens to me
I hear voices so i wrote
only once did I leave my body
        others doubt the possibilities.
        no.earl grey tea
        hot
        make it so
        engage
insanity is just one small step away from all of us
we peer into the abyss ad what do we see?
        a pallid reflection of ourselves
our lives unfurling like some damp flag
        yesterdays mirror
        tomorrows news
        wrapped around some drunks bottle

And Mark had this to say about the download tour.

(oscilate) so on downloads next tour are they just going to play stuff off of eyes w/o lyrics or are you going w/ them spybey?

  • THE PROCESS PROMO INFO
A copy of the text from 'The Process' promo copy has surfaced.
    • Dierdre sent up to Epilogue a copy of the text from the promo of Skinny Puppy's 'The Process.' Here is what it had to say and note the misspelling of Nivek Ogre's name:

"Fire.á Flood.á A Religious Cult.á Shangri-La.á Death.á Sound biblical?á Maybe, but in this case, it's all part of the story behind the making of SKINNY PUPPY's American Recordings debut, and their final studio album, The Process.á Ever since their formation in 1983, the pioneering North American indsutrial trio has led a troubled, but brilliant existence (NIN's Trent Reznor unabashedly cites them as a principal influene).

The Process took two years to make -- a time that witnessed the acrimonious resignation of singer Nivek Orgreá and the death of synthesist Dwayne Goettel. Everything about The Process is intense, and is an important rite of passage for the industrial music."

  • MARTIN ATKINS SPOKEN WORD TOUR unrelated info
    Speak your mind to Martin.
    • Yes this has nothing to do with Skinny Puppy/Ogre/Download but heck, it's interesting! Martin Atkins posted to R.M.I. this message:

In the Pigface tradition, I will be attempting to peel back another layer from the artist/audience relationship by making myself available for your amusement. Usually I only get to meet people who, one way or another, wangle their way backstage after a show. These are not always the people I most want to speak to and it is certainly not the grooviest time as I am usually in the middle of some after show trauma with either equipment, people, money, mind, body, sweat, underwear, etc. I will be reading some of my published written work, cut up tour diaries, recent pieces and other stuff. People can come and listen, say 'hello' or 'fuck off', ask about anything...Talk about whatever you want to talk about. I hope it will be a rewarding experience for us all.

  • LEATHERSTRIP WILL COVER TESTURE
Cleopatra's Skinny Puppy Tribute album will include a cover of 'Testure.'
    • Once again, Maggot has come through with a killer bit of info. Claus has picked the Skinny Puppy song he will cover and it's 'Testure.' Interesting choice. 'Testure' is perhaps Skinny Puppy's most popular/accessible song imho; i wonder where he will go with it. Below is message from the LeŠtherstrip mailing list. Oh yea, be sure to check out Maggot's Industrial page here and give him your support.

        Hi all.
        The song will be "Testure".
Thanks for your input and ideas.
I started working an hour ago.

  • SKINNY PUPPY TRIBUTE ALBUM
Plans are being made for a Skinny Puppy Tribute album from Cleopatra.
    • Maggot, who has started a cool Industrial Music link page here, posted to Epilogue this e-mail from Claus Larsen of LeŠtherstrip:

Hi All. SO, now Cleopatra is starting to get a SP tribute cd together! What will be next "ABBA", ha ha.

I was asked to do a track for it yesterday, and I've decided to say yes, but there are so many great songs to cover, so I am asking you all for help.
        Which song should I cover???

        Have a great week end.

        Claus
        thanks

You can respond to the LeŠtherstrip Mailing List. For info on how to do that follow this link here, to a LeŠtherstrip home page (not the official one). And i'd hate to go into detail, but there already has been an ABBA tribute album. The horror!
  • CEVIN RESPONDS TO E-MAIL
cEvin drops a line regarding gear and the possibility of touring with Ogre.
    • Dominic posted to Usenet on alt.fan.skinny an e-mail he sent to cEvin and his reply. Now don't get too excited, cEvin just says anything is possible, not probable or likely. Interesting info on gear used. Here is the original message:

Anyways I have a couple questions, In the SP video collection, during the live videos it shows they synths with tons of disks stacked up all over the place, where those all sampels or what? (just stage props maybe?)there was tons . Also, the question you probably get a millon times .. Do you ever think Skinny Puppy will ever do one more tour?
        thanks

And here is the reply from cEvin:

hey in the old days you needed lots of disks. I had one disk for the upper part of my keyboard and several for the lower. Each of us used samplers which every song needed to be loaded up with sounds. It was crazy.

Who knows if Ogre and I will ever tour again .

        bye

    • H e l l, who is working on a new e-zine, scored an interview with cEvin Key. The full interview is not ready yet, or in english, but here is an excerpt from it regarding a possible direction Download and/or cEvin may be taking. When it's ready i'll be posting the link here. Until then, H e l l may tease us with a few more quotes!

  • RAVE IS A MEMBER OF NIN?
Dave 'Rave' Ogilvie now seems to be an official member of Nine Inch Nails.
    • Dave Sticherd saw on R.M.I. a post from Skarekroe quoting the insert from the David Bowie Single 'I'm Afraid of Americans.' Here's the quote:

production and additional performances by nine inch nails: trent reznor, charlie clouser, keith hillebrandt, dave 'rave' ogilvie, danny lohner

Does this mean Rave, after remixing lots of NIN songs plus other stuff, is now a full member? Is it a misprint? Do you not know who Rave is? The short is: Rave produced almost everything Skinny Puppy ever did and was listed as a member of Skinny Puppy on VIVIsectVI. For more details check out the FAQ, the link is on the right.

At first, III might be compared to cEvin's recent Plateau project, but after several more listens I discovered that it sounds much more like a combination between Plateau and Philth's project, Off and Gone.

  • PLATEAU REVIEW
AP Review of Music for Grass Bars.
    • Below is a review from Alternative Press Issue 112 (Oasis Issue) of platEAU's Music For Grass Bars.

PLATEAU - Music for Grass Bars

Apparently this CD was inspired by some long days (and nights) in the smoky underworld of Amsterdam's hospitable, over-the-counter weed establishments. Conceived and executed by Skinny Puppy's cEvin Key along with DJ Phil (from Off & Gone) and Key's partner from Download, Anthony Valcic, this is an electronic brouhaha of the highest order. Key and company engage in rough, impressionistic electronica that is neither soothing or really dance-oriented. Key's main talent is his ability to evoke brusque, acerbic soundscapes that jar the listener's aesthetic sensibilities rather than engage them. Fanatically rhythmic at times with interludes of drifting, subsonic notations, this music seems to have been crafted after going to the grass bars and not necessarily for the blunted milieu. A bit grating, as are Key's musical signatures in general, Music for Grass bars is mostly idiosyncratic mind-static set on automatic with a few decent lights in the attic.

        (Hypnotic/Cleopatra) - Mitch Myers

30 Second Wav and Mov sound files for each track on the album.

Download's III features a collaboration between cEvin Key (formerly of Skinny Puppy), Anthony Valcic and Philth. Recorded at their own subCONSCIOUS Studios in Vancouver, III is Download's second full-length release on Nettwerk Records.

Download was formed in the ashes of Skinny Puppy by cEvin Key and Dwayne Goettel. Past records have featured collaborations with artists and producers such as Ken Marshall, Mark Spybey and Genesis P. Orridge.

Last summer saw Download hit the road for a hugely successful tour which brought them through almost every city in the USA and Canada.

  • RITALIN WEB PAGE
Ogre's new band Ritalin on Invisible Records now has a small web page.
    • Mark Weddle found this beginning of a web page over on the Invisible site. I guess i should consider changing my site name from 'WELT" to 'Ritalin' eh? Either way here is a copy of what it says:

If you're here, then you probably read Alternative Press' August 1997 issue mentioning the following:

Former Skinny Puppy frontman Ogre has been keeping busy. Besides creating electronic soundscapes for his own enjoyment at home, he's teaming up with Martin Atkins for a project dubbed Ritalin. "It's sort of like a postcard," says the singer. "I told Martin we should try to sound as little like ourselves as possible, just rhythm and voice." Ogre mentioned that the concept would be similar to the Pigface track "Insemination" from the album Fook.

Martin and Ogre will be recording this fall. More info as it becomes available.

    A tidbit of info.

Seems that 'III' is being released in October instead of mid-September... I recently emailed Thorston at OffBeat and he said it will be released in the middle of October.. so it may seem that 'III' will have a simultaneous release in Europe and North America...? We'll see.

  • NEW DOWNLOAD TRACK
New Download track on Hypnotic compilation SCI-FI CAFE.
    • Dustin Keyser on Epilouge clued us in to a new Download Track. Here's what he had to say:

Just picked up a compilation off of Hypnotic called SCI-FI CAFE that features different artists doing their own versions of theme songs from various sci-fi classics or songs inspired by them.. Just mentioning this because it has a new Download track called (ODE TO ROLLERBLADE) which is inspired by the movie of the same name. I don't know if this a sign of what's to come from their new album. It probably isn't but it's a cool song none the less. The other bands on the cd are as follows: The Electric Sky Church[Dune(Prophecy theme)], LCD[Independence Day], Loop Guru[Star Trek], Leatherstrip[X-Files theme], Cyphonix Palacios[Close Encounters of the Third Kind], Astralasia[Doctor Who], Pressurehed[Lost in Space], Information Society[Star Trek(Doomsday theme)], Kinder Atom[Escape From New York], Cathexis[In Search Of], and finally Space Ship Eyes[Liquid Sky]. Overall I think it's a pretty damn good cd. Also, anybody seen In Search Of or Liquid Sky? Never heard of them.

        Gaebril@ibm.net

Dustin was kind enough to e-mail me the catalogue number for those of you who need it for ordering or other reasons:

The catalog number is CLP 0097-2 1997 Hypnotic Recordings.

  • TEAR GARDEN INFO
    New album next year
    • Dimitri the webmaster for a good Tear Garden web site alerted me to this info regarding the new album. Also, if you've not heard any Tear Garden yet (how could you not?!?!) be sure to check out the RealAudio files there.

Got an e-mail from cEvin Key. The new Tear Garden record is not yet completed. The rumor said it was imminent but as cEvin told me, they will probably be recording it next year since Edward is expecting a second child. Edward is already the happy father of a son called Calyxx. • NEW DOWNLOAD INFO
    Release information from Nettwerk.
    • Rene forwarded to Epilouge a press release regarding the release of the new Download album 'lll' and here's what it had to say:

Hello there....here's the latest on Download:

Download's new album 'lll' features a collaboration between cEvin Key (formerly of Skinny Puppy), Anthony Valcic and Philth. Recorded at their own SubConscious Studios in Vancouver, lll is Download's second full-length release on Nettwerk Records. Their first, "The Eyes Of Stanley Pain", is approaching sales of 20,000 in North America.

The album once again features brilliant artwork by Dave McKean, the artist behind the cover artwork for the 'Sandman' comic series, which saw a seven-year run. Dave McKean has also done artwork for Front Line Assembly, Stephen King and even wrote and illustrated children's books.

Download's 'III' hits the streets in Canada and the USA on October 21st, 1997.

Download was formed from the ashes of Skinny Puppy by cEvin Key and Dwayne Goettel. Past records have featured collaborations with artists and producers such as Ken Marshall, Mark Spybey and Genesis P. Orridge.

Check out Nettwerk's web site for upcoming artwork, track listings and sound files.

  • OGRE & KMFDM
Ogre track on new KMFDM album.
  • Ogre is on the new KMFDM album titled 'Wurst' or you can call it 'symbol album' i guess. The track is called 'Torture' and SnC had/has a MP3 of the song, but due to problems (Sahsa getting VERY pissed off about it) i will not post it here or it's link. The album is due out on September 23rd and here's what else the KMFDM web site has to say about it:

WORK ON THE NEW ALBUM HAS BEEN COMPLETED. EVERYBODY HAS LEFT THE STUDIO AND RETURNED TO THEIR DAILY ROUTINES. NOW THE AFTERMATH OF MASTERING THE RECORD, PUTTING THE PACKAGING AND BOOKLET TOGETHER HAS BEGUN.

THE RELEASE DATE IS GOING TO BE ON 9/23/97.

THE NEW ALBUM HOSTS AN ARRAY OF GUESTS:

      -OGRE (SKINNY PUPPY)
      -RAYMOND WATTS (PIG)
      -TIM SKOLD (SKOLD)
-ABBY TRAVIS (BECK, ELASTICA, The Abby Travis Foundation)

  • OGRE, MARTIN ATKINS & PIGFACE
Ogre will have a solo album on Invisible.
  • I picked this up on RMI. I also left in the stupid quote from a RMI'er regarding the lack of big names on the new album for amusement's sake.

You said - >"btw, >did you notice the reason atkins didn't advertise the amazing line-up on >this release? there wasn't on! oh it's a good album, but i guess i've >come to expect more impressive musicians on a pigface album than jim >marcus, marc heal, and the singer from chainsuck. didn't a recent a.p. >magazine say ogre was gonna be on it? liars! "

Who are you calling a liar, me, or A.P.? actually Ogre has signed a solo deal with invisible and as soon as I get back to Chicago we will begin working on that new cd. Maybe that was the source of some confusion? Anyway, you seem to have completely missed the point about Pigface, it was always about everyone getting involved...so called name or not. It is a shame that you cannot simply listen to Mary Dees voice or Bobdogs sitar or Meg Lee Chin or DJ Jordan Fields or Ben Stokes orMarc Heal orDave Wright or Mark Spybey or Genesis P Orridge or or or or or What is it that impresses you about musicians,- sounding great or being told by someone else that they sound great and are therfore impressive.

I have stopped listing all of the names on the front cover because I am tired of people like you who cannot see past it. Thankyou though for, despite your petty snobbery, saying how great the cd sounds.

      1. Get a life.
      2. Get your own opinion.
      3. Get a clue.
      4. Be happy

      Love Martin

  • NO OGRE
Ogre is not on the new Pigface album.
  • According to my friend John, Ogre is not on the new Pigface album. This news contradicts the Alternative Press blurb 'Ogre's Ritalin Summer,' which includes him on the new album.

  • PIGFACE ALBUM
    What is known.
  • My local record store did not have a copy of 'A New High In Low' but you can listen to the whole album in Realaudio format at Caroline Records here.

It looks like Ogre is NOT on it. But here's what Caroline's website has to say about those who are:

Among the current incarnation of Pigface are longtime collaborators Paul Ferguson, Charles Levi, Genesis P-Orridge, Jim Marcus, Martin Atkins, and Dirk Flanigan and - in keeping with the tradition which began with Trent Reznor's early involvement - Pigface has enlisted many new and influential artists including Meg Lee Chin, Ben Stokes of DHS, Mick Harris (Scorn), Mark Spybey (Dead Voices on Air), Marc Heal (Ashtrayhead), and Duncan X of Sheep on Drugs.

  • NEW PIGFACE TODAY
    Is Ogre on it?
  • Today is the day the new Pigface album 'A New High In Low' is released. They've been kinda quiet about who play's on this one. So the question is: 'Are there any songs with Ogre?'

  • MORPHEDUS TRACK
    E-Mail from Cevin
  • I had sent an e-mail to Cevin Key regarding the origin of the track 'Morphedus' on the 'We Came to Dance Vol. 10' cd. Here's his reply:

yes indeed , a unreleased track from the unreleased single for Candle. Morpheous is the correct title and was recorded in Malibu 93/94. alas there are other tracks still remaining they own.
