Update :: Corey
It is with the deepest sadness that I report that Sasha Coon, special effects and drum technician on Skinny Puppy and ohGr tours for many years, died this past Saturday. As some may know, he suffered from a severe spinal injury and went through multiple surgeries to attempt to free him from the constant pain, a fact that made the job he loved so much even more difficult. Any of us who experienced one of these performances owes our resultant joy, in part, to his blood, sweat, and tears. Some people have been asking about memorials or where to send donations. I will pass that information along as soon as it is available.
It is not my place to eulogize him and I do not wish to grieve publicly, but I want people to know a bit about the man beneath that trademark hat. Sasha was a memorable personality and that is just the way he liked it. He could be brash on the road but I learned that the tough-guy persona he cultivated was but one layer of man who loved crosswords, Elvis, and the ocean. He was a person of strength and faith whose love for his family was incalculable. His wife and children were his everything and, while that may sound trite, it was truer for Sasha than anyone I've ever known. It was part of who he was and who he wanted to be: an old-fashioned family man. Someone once told me that the people with whom one tours become a "foster family." For a few months out of the last two years of my life, Sasha was part of my foster family and I am privileged to have known him.
My thoughts are now with his family.
